Edwin Maurice Solomons (born in 1879, died on April 22, 1964) was an important person in Ireland's Jewish community. He was also a successful international businessman. He made history as the first person to join the Dublin stock exchange.

Who Was Edwin Solomons?

Edwin Solomons came from a well-known Jewish family in Dublin, Ireland. His family moved to Ireland from England in 1824. His father, Maurice Solomons (1832–1922), was an optician. His mother, Rosa Jacobs Solomons (1833–1926), was born in Hull, England.

His Talented Family

Edwin had several talented siblings. His brother, Bethel Albert Herbert Solomons (1885–1965), was a medical doctor. Bethel was also an international rugby player for Ireland. He supported the 1916 Rising, an important event in Irish history.

Edwin's sister, Estella Solomons (1882–1968), was a leading artist. She was also a member of Cumann na mBan. This was a women's organization during the 1916 Rising. Estella married a poet and publisher named Seamus O'Sullivan. Edwin's younger sister, Sophie, was a trained opera singer.

Edwin Solomons also held important roles in the Jewish community. He was a former president of the Dublin United Hebrew Congregations. He also led the Jewish Representative Council of Eire. These groups helped guide and represent Jewish people in Ireland.
