Anna Eileen Heckart (born Herbert; March 29, 1919 – December 31, 2001) was a famous American actress. She worked on stage, in movies, and on television for almost 60 years. She was known for her strong performances and won many awards during her long career.

Early Life and Education

Eileen Heckart was born Anna Eileen Herbert in Columbus, Ohio. When she was young, she was adopted by her stepfather, J.W. Heckart. She used his last name for the rest of her life. She had two stepsisters named Anne and Marilyn.

Eileen loved drama and studied it in college. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in drama from Ohio State University. She also continued her acting studies at HB Studio in New York City.

Eileen Heckart was a member of the Democratic Party. She even met President Lyndon B. Johnson at The White House in 1967. She was also a Roman Catholic.

Death

Eileen Heckart passed away on December 31, 2001, at her home in Norwalk, Connecticut. She was 82 years old and died from lung cancer. Her ashes were scattered outside the Music Box Theatre in Manhattan, New York, a place special to her theater career.
