Ekta Kapoor is a famous Indian producer and director. She was born on June 7, 1975. She creates and directs many popular TV shows and movies in Hindi language.
Ekta is the head of a big company called Balaji Telefilms Limited, which she started in 1994. Later, she also launched Balaji Motion Pictures in 2001 to make films. In 2017, she started ALTBalaji, which is a platform where you can watch shows and movies online.
In 2020, Ekta Kapoor received the Padma Shri award, which is one of India's highest honors for her work in arts. She was also honored with the 2023 International Emmy Directorate Award at the 51st International Emmy Awards.

Her Family and Education
Ekta Kapoor's parents are famous actors, Jeetendra and Shobha Kapoor. Her younger brother, Tusshar Kapoor, is also a well-known actor in Bollywood.
She went to school at Bombay Scottish School, Mahim. After that, she studied at Mithibai College.
Ekta Kapoor is not married. She has a son named Ravie Kapoor, who was born in 2019 through surrogacy.
Starting Her Career
Ekta Kapoor began her career very young, at just 17 years old. She worked as an intern with a filmmaker named Kailash Surendranath. With some help from her father, she started her own production company, Balaji Telefilms.
At first, her projects didn't do well. Many of her first TV show ideas were rejected. But in 1995, her show Mano Ya Na Mano was picked up by Zee TV. Her comedy show, Hum Paanch, which also started in 1995, became her first big success.
The "K" Factor in TV Shows
In the 2000s, Ekta Kapoor found a unique way to make her shows popular. She noticed that shows starting with the letter 'K' seemed to bring good luck. So, she launched many shows with titles beginning with 'K'.
One of her most famous 'K' shows was Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. This show broke all records and became super popular in 2000. Other hit 'K' shows included Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, Kasautii Zindagii Kay, and Kasamh Se. By 2001, she was producing over 30 hours of TV shows every week!
Ekta Kapoor also started making shows in other Indian languages like Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Marathi, Gujarati, and Bengali. She has created and produced more than 130 Indian soap operas. Because of her huge success, people often call her the "Czarina of television" or "the Queen of Indian Television."
Venturing into Films and Digital Content
In 2001, Ekta Kapoor also started producing Bollywood movies. Her first film was Kyo Kii... Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta. She produced various types of films, including comedies like Kyaa Kool Hai Hum and action movies like Shootout at Lokhandwala.
Later, she produced many successful films such as Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010), The Dirty Picture (2011), and Ek Villain (2014). She also produced Udta Punjab (2016) and Dream Girl (2019).
In 2012, Ekta Kapoor opened the Institute of Creative Excellence. This is a school that teaches people about media and filmmaking. She also launched her own digital app, ALTBalaji, where she releases many online TV series called web series.
Awards and Recognition
Ekta Kapoor is known for her creative ideas and for helping many new actors and actresses start their careers. In 2001, Asia Week magazine named her one of "Asia's Most Powerful Communicators."
She is considered one of the most powerful women in the Indian television industry and is among the top 25 women entrepreneurs in India.
