El Macero is a small community located right next to the city of Davis, California in Yolo County, California. It's a special kind of area called a census-designated place, which means it's a community that the government counts for population, even though it's not officially a city.
El Macero used to have its own special ZIP Code, 95618, until 2006. Now, some parts of Davis also share that ZIP code. The community is named after Bruce Mace, who owned the land where it was built. El Macero is about 36 feet (11 meters) above sea level. A golf course is a big part of the community. In 2020, about 1,074 people lived in El Macero, making it a small and friendly place.
History of El Macero
The land where El Macero now stands has a long and interesting history. It was once owned by a famous person named General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo.
Later, in 1851, the Montgomery Family bought the land. They settled there during the exciting time of the California Gold Rush.
About a hundred years later, Bruce Mace bought the land. He had a great idea to build a golf course! He hired Robert Baldock, a golf course designer from Fresno, to help him. The golf course and a clubhouse opened in the spring of 1961. They also started selling the first 175 homes there.
