El Tigre is a city in the state of Anzoátegui, located in eastern Venezuela. It's about 190 miles (300 km) southeast of Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela. The city is built on a flat area called the "Guanipa Mesa." A river named Tigre runs through the city.

El Tigre is important because it's near the Orinoco Belt. This area has one of the largest oil reserves in the world. Because of this, many companies that help the oil industry have set up in El Tigre. The city is growing with new shopping malls, business buildings, and projects to attract tourists.

History of El Tigre
How the City Began
In the 1930s, a lot of light crude oil was found near El Tigrito. This discovery was made by the Mene Grande Oil Company (MGO). They were a part of a bigger company called Gulf Oil Corporation.
The "Oficina No. 1" well was a test well started in 1933. It was finished in 1937 and found a very productive oil area. This oil discovery led to the start of El Tigre on February 23, 1933. That's when Mene Grande set up their offices in a place they called Campo Oficina.
El Tigre quickly became a "boomtown." This means it grew very fast because of the new oil industry. The name "Oficina" (which means "Office") came from a telegraph office in El Tigrito. Before oil was found, not many people lived in this area.
Growth and Development
By 1940, a road and an oil pipeline were built. These connected El Tigre to Puerto La Cruz, a port city. By 1946, many oil wells had been drilled. The region had produced a huge amount of oil. The oil company also built a main camp called San Tomé near El Tigre.
