Eldon is a small community in Mason County, Washington, United States. It is not an official city but a group of homes and businesses. Eldon is located along U.S. Route 101. This road runs next to the beautiful Hood Canal. You can find Eldon north of Lilliwaup and south of Brinnon. Eldon has a small store and places for fun activities. Many businesses here serve both visitors and local people.

History of Eldon

Early 1900s

Eldon was a very busy place in the early 1900s. This was because of the many logging operations nearby. People were cutting down a lot of trees along the upper Hamma Hamma River.

1920s

In 1924, two special bridges were built near Eldon. They are made of concrete and cross the South and North Hamma Hamma River. These bridges are famous for their smart design. They were built using new engineering ideas for that time. They are even listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

The main gas station in Eldon, called the Eldon Store, was likely built in 1925.

1930s

During the 1930s, a special camp was set up near the Hamma Hamma River. This was a Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) side camp. The CCC was a program that helped young men find work during tough economic times. They often worked on projects to improve parks and forests.

The 2018 Maple Fire

In 2018, a large forest fire happened near Eldon. It was called the 2018 Maple Fire. The fire started southwest of Brinnon, WA, close to Eldon. The trees burned for almost three months. Firefighters worked hard to stop it. It cost about 4.5 million dollars to put out the fire.
