Eleutherodactylus wetmorei is a type of frog that lives in the Caribbean. It belongs to a family of frogs called Eleutherodactylidae. This frog is special because it lays its eggs on land, not in water, which is unusual for many frogs!

Where This Frog Lives

This frog is found only on the island of Hispaniola. This island is shared by two countries: the Dominican Republic and Haiti. It lives in specific areas, like the Tiburon Peninsula in Haiti. You can also find it in the Massif de la Selle in the Dominican Republic. Another home for it is the Massif du Nord in north-central Haiti. This frog likes to live in moist, green forests with broadleaf trees.

How This Frog Lives

This frog is an arboreal species. This means it spends most of its time in trees and plants. You can often find it living inside bromeliad plants. These plants have leaves that form a cup, holding water. The frog also likes to hide in the leaves of other plants, like banana trees. What's really cool is that this frog lays its eggs right inside these bromeliad plants! This is different from many frogs that lay their eggs in ponds or streams.

Protecting This Frog

Unfortunately, Eleutherodactylus wetmorei is facing some dangers. Its natural habitat is shrinking. This is mostly because of logging, which means cutting down trees. Also, land is being cleared for agriculture, like farms. These activities destroy the forests where the frogs live.

Some areas where these frogs live are protected. However, many of these protected places need better care. This means more effort is needed to manage them well. Better management helps keep the frogs and their homes safe. Protecting these forests is important for the future of this unique frog.
