Elizabeth Eaton Rosenthal, also known as Elizabeth Sweetheart, is a super creative artist and designer. She was born in Nova Scotia, Canada, in 1941. People know her best as the "Green Lady of Brooklyn." This is because she absolutely loves the color green! She wears green clothes and even decorates her home almost entirely in green.
Growing Up Green
Elizabeth Eaton was born in a small Canadian town called Amherst. Her grandparents were a big influence on her. They lived with her mother while her father was away. He was a surgeon during Second World War.
Elizabeth spent many summers with her grandfather. They stayed at his log cabin by the Bay of Fundy. Her grandmother taught her how to paint. She also learned how to make her own clothes.
Later, Elizabeth went to Mount Allison University. She studied fine arts there. A famous Canadian painter, Alex Colville, was one of her teachers.
Becoming an Artist and Designer
In 1964, Elizabeth couldn't find the right job in Canada. So, she decided to hitchhike all the way to New York City! She arrived with just a pillow and her sketchbook. The unemployment office quickly sent her to a job interview. She got a job in an art department in the Garment Center.
In 1987, Elizabeth started her own company. It was called SweetPea Design Studio. She ran this business for 15 years. After that, she focused on selling fabrics. She had a large collection of old, unique design fabrics.
Elizabeth is also a talented fine artist. She creates hand-painted prints for famous clothing designers. Some of these include Michael Kors, Liz Claiborne, Calvin Klein, American Eagle Outfitters, and Ralph Lauren. She also makes tiny watercolor paintings.
The Green Lady of Brooklyn
Elizabeth is famous for her unique style. She is known as the "Green Lady of Brooklyn." Since about the year 2000, she has worn green from head to toe. This even includes her bright lime green hair!
She is usually seen wearing overalls. She owns about 30 pairs, and all of them are dyed green. Her home is also decorated in many different shades of green.
Her Family
Elizabeth married Robert Rosenthal in 1966 or 1967. Robert is also an artist. They have one son named Sam Eaton. Sam is a mentalist, which means he performs amazing mind-reading tricks.
