Elizabeth Ann Regosin (born 1967) is an American historian. She is a special professor of history at St. Lawrence University. She studies African-American history, focusing on the time when slavery ended and the period right after. This time is called the Reconstruction era. Regosin has written two books about these important topics.

Learning and Growing Up

Elizabeth Regosin grew up in Irvine, California. She has two sisters. She went to the University of California, Berkeley and earned a degree in history in 1989.

College Studies

After Berkeley, she continued her studies at the University of California, Irvine. She worked as a teaching assistant while earning her master's degree in history in 1992. She then got her Ph.D. in history from Irvine in 1995. Her main research for her Ph.D. was about how formerly enslaved families used the Civil War pension system. Her professor, Michael P. Johnson, helped guide her studies.

Her Work as a Historian

Dr. Regosin's main interest is African American history. She focuses on how African Americans moved from being enslaved to being free. This time of change is very important in American history.

Books and Teaching

She has written two books about emancipation (the freeing of slaves) and the Reconstruction era. These books help us understand what life was like during these times. Dr. Regosin started teaching at St. Lawrence University in 1997. She teaches classes on U.S. history, African American history, and the history of women in the U.S.. She holds a special title as the Charles A. Dana Professor of History.

Community Learning

Dr. Regosin also teaches a unique class. It is a community-based learning course. In this class, students from St. Lawrence University learn alongside students from the Riverview Correctional Facility. This helps everyone learn from different viewpoints.
