Elizabethtown is a small town located in Bartholomew County, Indiana, in the United States. It is part of Sand Creek Township. In 2020, about 406 people lived there. The town is also part of the larger Columbus, Indiana area.

History of Elizabethtown

Elizabethtown was officially planned and mapped out in 1845. It was named after Elizabeth Branham, who was the wife of the person who founded the town. The local post office has been open since 1844, helping people send and receive mail for a very long time.

Elizabethtown has a strong community spirit. In November 2017, the town celebrated six years of its "Environmental Challenge." Through this challenge, Elizabethtown has received over $750,000 in grants. More than 600 volunteers have also helped out.

  • Building a children's library.
  • Creating a children's playground.

In 2012, Elizabethtown won an Environmental Challenge Award. The next year, in 2013, they received a KaBoom grant, which helped build the children's playground. In 2015, the town won a large storm water grant of $475,000. That same year, volunteers worked on a special project and won a grant for a tornado warning siren. In 2017, Elizabethtown also received a community cross roads grant. These grants and volunteer efforts show how much the community works together to improve the town.
