Elk Creek is a small community in Glenn County, California. It's a special type of place called a census-designated place, which means it's a community that doesn't have its own local government but is still counted in the census. Elk Creek is located about 19 miles (30 km) northwest of Willows. It sits at an elevation of 745 feet (227 meters) above sea level.

In 2010, the population of Elk Creek was 163 people. It's known for having the smallest public high school in California. This school teaches about 35 students from 7th to 12th grade. The Grindstone Indian Rancheria of Wintun-Wailaki Indians, an important Native American community, is also located nearby. They have their businesses in Elk Creek. A well-known natural landmark close to the town is a mountain called Bidwell Point. The first post office in Elk Creek opened way back in 1872.

Nature and Surroundings

Elk Creek is located just north of Stony Gorge Reservoir, a large lake. The creek that gives the town its name, Elk Creek, flows from the nearby Coast Range mountains into Stony Creek. Stony Creek then flows from the dam at Stony Gorge into another lake called Black Butte Lake. If you enjoy outdoor activities, hunting is allowed in the area, but only with shotguns and bows.

Climate and Weather

Elk Creek has a type of weather called a hot-summer Mediterranean climate. This means the summers are very hot and dry, with temperatures sometimes reaching up to 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celsius). The winters are generally mild and wet.
