Elkhead Mountains facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Elkhead Mountains are a mountain range found in Colorado. They are considered "low altitude" for Colorado, as most peaks are under 11,000 feet (3,400 m) (about 3,350 meters) tall. These mountains are located in Routt and Moffat counties. Because they are far from big cities and have few lakes or streams, not many people visit them.

How the Elkhead Mountains Were Made

The Elkhead Mountains are a volcanic mountain range. This means that all of their peaks were created by volcanoes long ago. Over time, these volcanoes became the mountains we see today.
