Elkton is a small city located in Brookings County, South Dakota, in the United States. In 2020, about 755 people lived there. Some residents of Elkton also have addresses in Minnesota. This is because the city is very close to the state border.

History of Elkton
Elkton was planned and laid out in the spring of 1880. It got its name from the city of Elkton, Maryland. By 1881, about 200 people had already made Elkton their home.

Based on the census from 2010, 736 people lived in Elkton. There were 286 households and 190 families. The city had about 474.8 people per square mile (183.3 people per square kilometer). There were 324 housing units, with an average of 209.0 units per square mile (80.7 units per square kilometer).
Most of the people in Elkton were White (85.2%). A small number were African American (0.4%). About 12.1% were from other races, and 2.3% were from two or more races. People of Hispanic or Latino background made up 14.5% of the population.

Education in Elkton
The Elkton Public School is the only school in the city. It teaches students from Kindergarten all the way through 12th Grade. It also has a pre-school program. The high school has won many state championships in sports. It was the first school to win three state championships in Boys Basketball. In 2010, the Girls Basketball team also won the Class A State Tournament.
