History of Ellerslie
A post office in Ellerslie has been open since 1828. People believe the community's name comes from a character. This character, Captain Ellerslie, was in the Waverley Novels. These famous books were written by Sir Walter Scott.
On March 3, 2019, a tornado hit the community. It caused some trees to fall down. The roofs of some homes were also damaged. Luckily, no one was hurt or killed during the storm.

Two main roads, Alternate U.S. Route 27 and Georgia State Route 85, pass through Ellerslie. These roads connect Ellerslie to other towns. Columbus is about 18 miles southwest. Waverly Hall is about 5 miles northeast. The big city of Atlanta is about 93 miles northeast by road.
