Elliotte Friedman is a famous Canadian sports journalist. He was born on September 27, 1970. Since 2014, he has been a top reporter for Sportsnet, focusing on ice hockey. He also works as an insider for the NHL Network. Many people know him from his regular appearances on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada.
Growing Up and School
Elliotte Friedman grew up in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He came from a middle-class family. For his education, he went to the University of Western Ontario. While there, he worked at the student newspaper called The Gazette. He started as a sports editor. Later, he became the editor-in-chief in 1992 and 1993.
Elliotte's Career in Sports
Elliotte Friedman began his career in broadcasting in 1994. He started at a sports radio station in Toronto called The Fan 590. He used to call the games for the Toronto Raptors basketball team on both radio and TV. In 1998, he also reported on Toronto Blue Jays baseball games. Besides his radio and TV work, he wrote articles for newspapers like the London Free Press and the Toronto Star.
In 1996, Elliotte won an award called the Telemedia Reporter of the Year. After that, he worked for The Score network. In 2003, he joined CBC Sports. At CBC, he was a reporter for Hockey Night in Canada. He also hosted the studio show for the last two seasons of the CFL on CBC football games. He even helped cover the Olympic Games for CBC.
Elliotte started reporting on the CFL in 2006. In 2011, he won a Gemini Award for Best Sports Reporting. This award was for his excellent work on Hockey Night in Canada's Heritage Classic event. He also kept appearing regularly on The Fan 590, which is now called Sportsnet 590. When Rogers Media took over the national media rights for the NHL, Elliotte was hired by Sportsnet. This allowed him to continue his important role on Hockey Night in Canada.
In 2016, Elliotte Friedman was a commentator for CBC's coverage of the 2016 Summer Olympics. He covered diving and swimming events. During the Men's 200 metre individual medley final on August 11, 2016, he made a small mistake. He thought the U.S. swimmer Ryan Lochte had won the race. However, it was actually won by his rival, Michael Phelps. This moment got a lot of attention.
