Elmore State Park is a fun place to visit in Elmore, Vermont. It's a state park that has a beautiful lake, Lake Elmore, and a mountain, Elmore Mountain. You can spend the day picnicking, hiking, or enjoying water activities. The park also has a large campground with 59 spots for tents or RVs.
Some parts of the park were built a long time ago in the 1930s. They were created by a group called the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Because of its special history, Elmore State Park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. The park is open every year from late May (Memorial Day) until early October (Columbus Day). There is a small fee to enter for the day or to camp overnight.

What Can You Do at Elmore State Park?
Elmore State Park is located in northern Elmore, a quiet area in Lamoille County, Vermont. The park covers about 755 acres. It sits between Lake Elmore and the top of Elmore Mountain, which is about 2,608 feet high.
Camping and Day Use Areas
The main part of the park is at the north end of Lake Elmore. This is where Beach Road meets Vermont Route 12.
- Camping: The campground is north of the beach. It has 44 spots for tents or RVs. There are also 15 lean-tos, which are like open shelters. Campers can use two restrooms with hot showers. There is also a place to empty RV waste.
- Day Use: The day-use area has a sandy beach. You can swim and play in the water. There's a beach house that the CCC built. It has a community room, a snack bar, restrooms, and places to rent boats.
Hiking Trails
You can easily find hiking trails at the park. These trails go up Elmore Mountain. At the very top of the mountain, there is an observation tower. From the tower, you can see amazing views of the area.
History of Elmore State Park
The story of Elmore State Park began in 1934. The town of Elmore and some local people gave about 30 acres of land to the state of Vermont.
Building the Park with the CCC
This happened during the Great Depression, a time when many people needed jobs. The state decided to use the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) to build the park. The CCC was a program that gave young men jobs working on public lands.
- Early Construction: Between 1934 and 1936, CCC crews worked hard. They built the main road into the park. They also created the sandy beach and the beach house. You can still find signs of their old camp in the area.
- Park Expansion: In 1938, the federal government gave more land to the state. The state then built the observation tower on top of Elmore Mountain in 1939. The campground, where people stay overnight, was added later in 1963.
