A Look Back at Elsie's History
Elsie was founded around the year 1887. This happened when the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad extended its train tracks to this area. The village was named after Elsie Perkins. She was the daughter of Charles Elliott Perkins, who was the president of the railroad company at the time.
You can still see the railroad's influence in Elsie today. Some of the streets in the village have names related to the railroad. These include Burlington, Chicago, Perkins, and Quincy. These names honor the company that helped the village begin.
