What is Elwomple?
Elwomple is known for where two important roads meet. The Mallee Highway forms its northern edge. The Dukes Highway runs along its southwestern side. These two highways come together in the northwest part of Elwomple.
The Bend Motorsport Park
A big racing track, called The Bend Motorsport Park, was built near where these highways meet. It was originally planned to be in Elwomple. However, in September 2017, before the park officially opened, the border between Elwomple and Tailem Bend was changed. This meant The Bend Motorsport Park became part of Tailem Bend instead of Elwomple.
Elwomple's Railway History
Elwomple once had its own railway station. This station was on the Pinnaroo railway line. This line runs right next to the Mallee Highway. Another railway line, the Adelaide–Wolseley railway line, is close to the Dukes Highway.
When the Station Opened
The Elwomple railway siding opened in December 1914. A siding is a short track next to the main railway line. It was used for both goods and passengers. The stationmaster from Sherlock managed the Elwomple station.
