Emma Louise Lobb (born on July 16, 1991), known as Emma Louise, is an Australian singer and songwriter. She is famous for her first song, "Jungle", released in 2011.
Her first two albums, Vs Head vs Heart (2013) and Supercry (2016), both made it into the top 15 on the Australian music charts. In 2013, she was nominated for Best Female Artist at the ARIA Music Awards.
About Emma Louise
Early Life and First Songs (1991–2012)
Emma Louise Lobb was born in July 1991 and grew up in Cairns, Australia. She started playing guitar when she was six. Emma wrote her first song about a dog when she was in ninth grade. She began writing more serious songs in tenth grade.
In 2007, Emma won two awards at the Queensland Music Awards. She won for Best Secondary School song and the People's Choice Award for her song "Kim's Song." This song was only available on her Myspace page at the time.
In 2008, Emma released her first collection of songs, called an extended play (EP), titled Autumn Tongues. It had five songs and was recorded in Cairns. In 2010, she moved to Brisbane. She said that singers like Missy Higgins and Josh Pyke inspired her music.
In April 2011, Emma released another EP called Full Hearts & Empty Rooms. One of its songs, "Jungle", became very popular on the radio station Triple J. This EP also reached the top 100 on the Australian music charts. That year, she toured with the band Boy & Bear. "Jungle" was voted number 23 on the Triple J Hottest 100, 2011 list by listeners.
Studio Albums and Collaborations (2013–Present)
In March 2013, Emma Louise released her first full album, Vs Head vs Heart. It reached number 12 on the Australian album charts. She was nominated for Best Female Artist at the ARIA Music Awards of 2013. She also won several awards at the Queensland Music Awards that year.
In 2013, a German DJ named Wankelmut remixed Emma's song "Jungle." This new version was called "My Head Is a Jungle." It became very popular, selling double platinum in Italy and reaching the top 30 in Germany. The fashion company Yves Saint Laurent even used "Jungle" in their perfume ads in 2014.
In 2014, Emma worked with the Australian electronic music group Flight Facilities. She sang on their song "Two Bodies," which also made it onto the Australian charts. It was voted number 39 on the Triple J Hottest 100, 2014.
In 2015, Emma opened for English singer Sam Smith during his tour in Australia and New Zealand. She also supported him on his second Australian tour later that year.
Emma signed with Liberation Music in 2015. She released her second album, Supercry, on July 11, 2016. This album reached number 14 on the Australian charts. In 2016, she also sang a version of the INXS song "Never Tear Us Apart" for a tourism ad for South Australia.
In September 2018, Emma Louise released her third album, Lilac Everything: A Project by Emma Louise.
Personal Life
Emma Louise married Canadian musician Tobias Jesso Jr. in January 2019. They now have a child together.
