Emma Louise Lobb (born 16 July 1991), who is known by her stage name Emma Louise, is an Australian singer and songwriter. She is most famous for her 2011 hit song "Jungle".
Emma Louise has released two studio albums that made it into the top 15 on the ARIA Albums Chart: Vs Head vs Heart (2013) and Supercry (2016). In 2013, she was nominated for Best Female Artist at the ARIA Music Awards of 2013.
Life and Music Career
Early Life and First Songs
Emma Louise Lobb was born in July 1991 and grew up in Cairns, Australia. Her musical journey started at a young age. She told ABC News, "My dad bought me my first guitar when I was six and I wrote my first song when I was in grade nine, which was about a dog."
In 2007, while still in high school, she won two Queensland Music Awards for her song "Kim's Song." A year later, she released her first collection of songs, an extended play (EP) called Autumn Tongues.
In 2010, she moved to Brisbane. She said her biggest musical inspirations were Australian artists like Missy Higgins, Josh Pyke, Sarah Blasko, and Lior.
Breakthrough with "Jungle"
In April 2011, Emma Louise released another EP called Full Hearts & Empty Rooms. One of its songs, "Jungle", became a huge hit. It was played a lot on the popular Australian radio station Triple J. The song was so popular that it landed at number 23 on the Triple J Hottest 100, 2011 list.
That same year, she toured with the band Boy & Bear and was nominated for a J Award as a rising star.
Studio Albums and Success
In March 2013, Emma Louise released her first full album, Vs Head vs Heart. It was very successful, reaching number 12 on the ARIA Albums Chart. This led to her nomination for Best Female Artist at the ARIA Music Awards.
A German DJ named Wankelmut created a remix of "Jungle" called "My Head Is a Jungle". This version became a massive hit in Europe. In 2014, the original song "Jungle" was used in a worldwide ad campaign for a famous fashion brand.
She also worked with the Australian electronic group Flight Facilities on their song "Two Bodies" in 2014.
In 2015, Emma Louise had the amazing opportunity to be the opening act for English singer Sam Smith during his tour in Australia and New Zealand.
Her second album, Supercry, came out in July 2016 and also did well, reaching number 14 on the charts. In September 2018, she released her third album, Lilac Everything: A Project by Emma Louise.
Personal Life
In January 2019, Emma Louise married Canadian musician Tobias Jesso Jr.. They have a child together.
