Emma Louise Slater (born December 25, 1988) is a British-American professional dancer and choreographer. She is most famous for being a pro dancer on the TV show Dancing with the Stars.
Early Life and Dancing
Emma Louise Slater was born on Christmas Day in 1988, in a town near Birmingham, England. She has a twin sister named Kelly, who works as a costume designer.
Emma grew up in Tamworth, Staffordshire, and started dancing when she was very young. By age 10, she was training in ballroom and Latin styles. She was a talented young dancer and won many competitions in England.
When she was 15, Emma appeared in a George Michael music video for the song "Round Here." She was also in a fitness video called "Latinasize."
Personal Life
Emma Slater became an American citizen in December 2020.
She was married to Sasha Farber, who is also a professional dancer on Dancing with the Stars. They got married in 2018. The couple separated in 2022 and are no longer together. Emma is now in a relationship with another Dancing with the Stars pro, Alan Bersten.
Career as a Dancer
Winning Competitions
Emma has won many dance awards. In 2005, when she was 16, she won the British Under 21 Latin American Championships. The next year, she won the United Kingdom Under 21 Latin American Championships. She was ranked as one of the top 10 dancers in the world and traveled to compete for the UK.
Theatre and Stage Shows
At 16, Emma joined the popular theatre show ‘Simply Ballroom’. She toured with the show across the UK, the United Arab Emirates, and South Africa.
After that, she performed in several big shows in London's famous West End. These included Dirty Dancing at the Aldwych Theatre and other shows like ‘Cheek to Cheek’ and ‘Latin Fever’.
In 2009, Emma joined the cast of Burn the Floor. She performed as a lead dancer on Broadway in New York City and toured all over the world, visiting countries like Japan, Canada, and Australia.

Movie Appearance
In 2008, Emma was a featured dancer in the hit movie Mamma Mia!. The movie starred famous actors like Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan. Emma also sang on the movie's soundtrack with the cast. The soundtrack was produced by the music group ABBA and was nominated for a Grammy Award.
Dancing with the Stars
In 2012, Emma joined the American TV show Dancing with the Stars as a troupe dancer. She helped choreograph and perform in the show's big opening numbers.
After three seasons in the troupe, Emma became a professional dancer in season 17. This meant she was paired with a celebrity partner to compete for the Mirrorball Trophy.
Over the years, Emma has danced with many famous people, including comedian Bill Engvall, actor Billy Dee Williams, and race-car driver Michael Waltrip.
