Emory is a small city in Rains County, Texas, United States. In 2020, about 1,251 people lived there. Emory is also the county seat of Rains County, which means it's where the main government offices for the county are located.
The city was once called Springville. Both the city and Rains County are named after a person named Emory Rains. He was a lawmaker from the area. Emory Rains helped create a special law in Texas called the Homestead Law. This law helped protect people's homes and land. Later, other parts of the United States used this law as an example. When Rains County was created, people voted for Emory to be the county seat.
