Rains County is a county located in the state of Texas. In 2020, about 12,164 people lived there. The main town, or county seat, is Emory. Both the county and the town are named after Emory Rains. He was a legislator, which means he helped make laws for Texas.
A special historical marker was placed at the county courthouse in 1970.

Rains County covers about 259 square miles. A good part of this area, about 29 square miles (11%), is covered by water. Two popular lakes in Texas are partly located here: Lake Tawakoni to the west and Lake Fork Reservoir to the east.
Rains County is one of the smallest counties in Texas. It is the fourth smallest by land area and the fifth smallest overall.
