History of Englewood
Englewood was started in 1884. It was an important stop for cattle drives along the Texas Trail. Cowboys would guide their cattle through here on the way to Dodge City. The city got its name from a neighborhood in Englewood, Illinois.
Early Development and Challenges
The first post office in Englewood opened in 1885. This helped the community grow. However, a big economic problem called the Panic of 1893 affected the area. Many farms struggled, and the local economy faced difficulties.
The region began to recover around 1906. This happened when a local rancher gave land to the town. This new land helped bring in more businesses. Sadly, a fire destroyed much of the new business area just two years later.

Englewood is located in southwestern Kansas. The city covers a total area of about 1.01 square miles (2.62 square kilometers). All of this area is land. There are no large bodies of water within the city limits.
