Ennis Whatley, born on August 11, 1962, is a former American professional basketball player. He was chosen by the Kansas City Kings as the 13th pick in the first round of the 1983 NBA draft. Ennis played for ten seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was a guard who stood 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighed 177 pounds. He played for teams like the Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Washington Bullets, San Antonio Spurs, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Portland Trail Blazers.

Whatley's best year in the NBA was during the 1986–87 season with the Bullets. He played in 73 games and scored an average of 8.5 points per game. Over his ten NBA seasons, Whatley played in 385 games and scored a total of 2,150 points. This means he averaged 5.6 points per game throughout his NBA career. He also holds a record for the Bulls, averaging 7 assists per game during his time with the team.

Ennis Whatley grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. He went to Phillips High School and then to the University of Alabama.

Playing in the CBA

Ennis Whatley also played in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA). He played for the Mississippi Jets during the 1987–88 season. He also played for the Wichita Falls Texans in the 1988–89 and 1990–91 seasons. Later, he joined the Connecticut Pride for the 1996–97 season.

In 1991, Whatley was named the CBA Playoff/Finals Most Valuable Player. He was also chosen for the All-CBA Second Team in 1989.

Basketball in the Philippines

Whatley found success playing in the Philippines as an "import" player. He joined the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) in 1989. During the Reinforced Conference that year, he helped the San Miguel Beermen win the championship. This win helped the Beermen achieve a "Grand Slam," which means winning all three major championships in one season.

Ennis Whatley returned to the PBA in 1990. He played for the team known as Presto Tivoli.

Life After Playing Basketball

After his basketball career, Ennis Whatley became a public speaker. He works for a company called Inspire LLP.
