Profession Banker

Enrico Braggiotti (born January 27, 1923 – died October 31, 2019) was an important banker from Monaco. He was born in Turkey and later became a citizen of Monaco. He spent most of his life working in the banking world, holding high positions in major banks.

Early Life and Family

Enrico Braggiotti was born in Turkey into a Catholic family. His father, Etienne, used to be in charge of the Ottoman Bank. His mother, Renata Solari, was from Italy.

Just a few weeks after Enrico was born, his family moved to the Principality of Monaco. This is a small, independent country on the French Riviera. His grandparents, Henri and Appolonie Trullet, also lived there. Appolonie came from a well-known family of sailors from Saint-Tropez. Her grandfather, Jean-François-Timothée Trullet, was a famous naval commander.

Enrico Braggiotti later married Magda de Portu, who was born in Paris. They had four children together: Jean-Luc, Gérard, Sandra, and Silvana.

Education and First Job

Enrico went to school at the Lycée de Monaco. After finishing his studies, he started working at a big Italian bank called Banca Commerciale Italiana, often called "Comit." He stayed with this bank for many years until he retired in 1990.

A Career in Banking

Enrico Braggiotti's banking career began in 1950. He started working for the Banca Commerciale Italiana in Casablanca. In 1955, he moved to Italy. By 1960, he was working at the bank's main office in Milan.

He quickly moved up the ranks at the bank. In 1965, he became part of the Central Division Committee. He was made Vice-Executive in 1984. Then, in 1988, he became the President of the Banca Commerciale Italiana. This was a very important job.

Leading Change in Italian Banking

During the 1980s, the way banks worked in Italy changed a lot. Many banks that were owned by the government became private companies. This made the Italian banking system more connected to banks around the world. The Banca Commerciale Italiana was a leader in these changes. Enrico Braggiotti played a big part in this transformation because of his important role and responsibilities at the bank.

Return to Monaco

In 1990, Enrico Braggiotti left his top job at the Banca Commerciale Italiana. He decided to return to his home in Monaco.

He then became the CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of the Compagnie Monégasque de Banque. This is another important bank in Monaco. He took over from Pierre-Paul Schweitzer. Enrico also invested his own money in the bank along with other people from Monaco, including the family of Jean-Charles Rey.

He brought many well-known French people to be on the bank's board of directors. These included Raymond Barre, Antoine Bernheim, Jean-François Poncet, Raoul Biancheri, and Henry Rey. Enrico Braggiotti officially became a full citizen of Monaco in 1992. He was also appointed as an administrator for the Société des Bains de Mer in 1988. This company manages many famous hotels and casinos in Monaco.

In 2004, the owners of the Compagnie Monégasque de Banque decided to sell their shares in another company called Mediobanca. Enrico Braggiotti left the CMB in 2006.

The Monaco Méditerranée Foundation

Enrico Braggiotti started a special organization called the Monaco Méditerranée Foundation (MMF). This foundation organizes regular meetings and talks. Important people from France and Italy are invited to speak at these events. Prince Albert II supervises the foundation's work.

The Monaco Méditerranée Foundation became a very active part of Monaco's cultural life. It also helps manage the Anna Lindh Foundation. This foundation works to build understanding between different cultures around the Mediterranean Sea. Enrico Braggiotti was an active member of the Anna Lindh Foundation after Monaco joined the Union for the Méditerranée.
