The city of Enterprise was first planned and mapped out in 1886. In 1887, the people living there thought about different names like Bennett Flat or Wallowa City. A post office opened in Enterprise in November 1887. Catherine Akin became the very first postmaster. Just a couple of years later, on February 21, 1889, the city was officially recognized by the Oregon Legislative Assembly.
