Entoku facts for kids
The Entoku (error: {{nihongo}}: Japanese or romaji text required (help)) was a special time period in Japan's history, like how we have years today. It was a "year name" or nengō (error: {{nihongo}}: Japanese or romaji text required (help)). This era came after the Chōkyō period and before the Meiō period. The Entoku era lasted from August 1489 to July 1492. During this time, the Emperor was Go-Tsuchimikado.
Key Events of the Entoku Period
- April 26, 1489 (Entoku 1): Ashikaga Yoshihisa, who was the Shogun (a powerful military leader of Japan), passed away at the age of 25. He died during a battle in Ōmi Province.
- January 27, 1490 (Entoku 2): The former Shogun, Ashikaga Yoshimasa, also passed away. He was 56 years old.
- 1490 (Entoku 2): Ashikaga Yoshitane became the new Shogun when he was 25 years old.
- During the Entoku era, a Buddhist temple called Jonen-ji was built. It is located near a place that is now known as Edo, which is modern-day Tokyo.
