Eqlid (Persian: اقليد) is a city in Iran. It is located in the Fars Province and is the main city of Eqlid County. Eqlid is an ancient place with a long and interesting history.

A Look into Eqlid's Past
Eqlid has a very old history. During the time of the Achaemenid empire, which was a huge empire in ancient Persia, Eqlid was known by the name Azargarta.
Why is it Called Eqlid?
The name Eqlid might come from the Persian word "kelid," which means "key." Older people in the area used to call it "kelil." This name makes sense because Eqlid was like a key or main gateway to the Fars region. It was especially important for reaching Persepolis, a famous ancient city. The important "royal road" used to pass through Eqlid. Other ways to Persepolis were difficult mountain paths.
The Legend of Eqlid's Founders
There's a legend that says Eqlid was built by three brothers: Elias, Aslam, and Orjam. Today, there are three main neighborhoods in Eqlid that are named after these brothers: Eliasan, Aslaman, and Orjaman. These neighborhoods used to be separate castles long ago.
Ancient Sites and Buildings
Eqlid has many historical places that date back to before the time of Islam. There is also a very old mosque in the center of the city, known as the Jame' Mosque.

Eqlid's Location and Climate
Eqlid is located about 22 kilometers (about 14 miles) west of the main highway that connects Isfahan and Shiraz. It is close to the Zagros Mountains.
High Up in the Mountains
Eqlid is one of the highest cities in Iran. It has a mountain peak called Bel, which is very tall. Because it's so high up, Eqlid has a dry and cold climate. Some of its mountain peaks are covered with snow all year round.
Farming in Eqlid
Even with the cold weather, Eqlid is an important farming city. Farmers here grow crops like wheat, barley, and potatoes. They also grow fruits such as grapes, walnuts, apples, and pears. The main road in the city is called Emam Khomeini Boulevard.
