Erastus Johnson Turner (born December 26, 1846 – died February 10, 1933) was an important American politician. He served as a U.S. Representative for the state of Kansas. This means he was elected by the people of Kansas to represent them in the United States government.

Early Life and Education
Erastus Johnson Turner was born in Lockport, Pennsylvania. This was on December 26, 1846. He went to college in Henry, Illinois, in 1859 and 1860. Later, in 1860, his family moved to Bloomfield, Iowa.
Serving His Country
During the American Civil War, Erastus Turner joined the army. He became part of Company E, 13th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He served as a soldier from 1864 until the war ended. After the war, he continued his education. He attended Adrian College in Michigan from 1866 to 1868.
A Career in Law and Politics
In 1871, Erastus Turner became a lawyer. This means he was "admitted to the bar." He started his law practice in Bloomfield, Iowa. In 1879, he moved to Hoxie, Kansas, and continued working as a lawyer there.
Turner also became involved in politics in Kansas.
- He was a member of the Kansas House of Representatives from 1881 to 1885. This is a group of elected officials who make laws for the state of Kansas.
- From 1883 to 1886, he worked as the Secretary for the Kansas Board of Railroad Commissioners. This board helped manage railroads in the state.

Erastus Turner was a member of the Republican Party. He was elected to the Fiftieth and Fifty-first Congresses. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives from March 4, 1887, to March 3, 1891. He decided not to run for re-election in 1890.
Later Years
After his time in Congress, Erastus Turner continued to practice law. He worked for several years in Washington, D.C., the capital of the United States. In 1905, he moved to Seattle, Washington, and kept working as a lawyer.
He retired from his busy career in 1916. After retiring, he moved to Los Angeles, California. Erastus Johnson Turner passed away there on February 10, 1933. He was buried in the Forest Lawn Mausoleum in Glendale, California.
