Eric Gerard Hayes (born November 12, 1967) is a former American football player. He played as a defensive tackle, which is a strong player on defense. Eric played for four seasons in the National Football League (NFL). His teams included the Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Rams, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Seattle Seahawks picked him in the fifth round of the 1990 NFL draft. This means they chose him to join their team. Before playing professionally, he played college football at Florida State University. Eric Hayes also played for the Connecticut Coyotes in the Arena Football League (AFL).

College Football Career
Eric Hayes played football for the Florida State Seminoles. He was a key player for four years, from 1986 to 1989. In 1985, he was redshirted. This means he practiced with the team but did not play in games. It allowed him to gain experience and keep a year of eligibility.
He received special honors for his playing. In 1987, he was named an Honorable Mention All-American. This means he was recognized as one of the best college players. In 1989, he earned more awards. These included second-team all-South Independent and other All-American honors.
Professional Football Career
The Seattle Seahawks chose Eric Hayes in the 1990 NFL Draft. He was the 119th player picked overall. In his first year, 1990, he played in all 16 games. This is a full season for an NFL team.
In 1991, he played in five games. He started three of those games. Later that year, he was placed on injured reserve. This means he could not play due to an injury. The Seahawks released him in August 1992.
