Eric Laidlaw Robinson (born 18 January 1929 – died 7 January 1981) was an Australian politician. He was a member of the Liberal Party. He held important jobs as a minister in the government led by Malcolm Fraser. These jobs included Minister for the Capital Territory (1975–1976), Minister for Post and Telecommunications (1976–1977), and Minister for Finance (1977–1979, 1979–1980). He represented the area of McPherson in Queensland as a member of the House of Representatives from 1972 until he passed away in 1981.

Early Life and Business

Eric Robinson was born on 18 January 1929 in East Brisbane, Queensland. His parents were Florence Evelyn and Arthur Neville Robinson. He went to Slade School in Warwick.

After school, Eric joined his father's business. It was a company that sold sporting goods. He later became the main boss, or managing director, of Robinson Holdings Pty Ltd. This company owned many stores along the coast of Queensland. In 1964, he married Narelle Beel. She had two children from a previous marriage.

Political Career

Eric Robinson became a member of the Liberal Party in Queensland in 1957. In 1963, he helped start the Surfers Paradise branch of the party. He was the state president for the Liberals from 1968 to 1973.

In 1972, Eric was elected to the House of Representatives. This is one of the two main parts of the Australian Parliament. He represented the area called McPherson.

When Malcolm Fraser became Prime Minister after the 1975 election, Eric Robinson was given a job as a minister. He became the Minister for the Capital Territory. This meant he was in charge of things in Australia's capital city, Canberra.

In February 1976, he changed roles and became the Minister for Post and Telecommunications. This job involved looking after mail and phone services. Later, in 1977, he was made Minister for Finance. This is a very important job, as it means he was in charge of the country's money.

In February 1979, Eric Robinson briefly left his job as a minister. However, he agreed to return just a few days later, again as the Minister for Finance. After the 1980 election, he was not given a minister job again.

Eric Robinson passed away suddenly in 1981 in Southport. He was still a member of Parliament when he died. He was survived by his wife, Narelle, and his son and daughter.
