Eric Sutton (born September 5, 1998) is a talented professional gridiron football player. He plays as a defensive back, which is a position that helps stop the other team from scoring. Eric has played for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Eric Sutton's Early Life
Eric Sutton was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. His father, also named Eric Sutton, was playing football for the Saskatchewan Roughriders at the time. Eric spent his early childhood in Los Angeles with his mother.
Later, he moved to Miami when he was in middle school. This is where he first started playing football. When he was in tenth grade, Eric moved again to Dallas. The excellent coaching he received there helped him dream of becoming a professional football player.
College Football Journey
Eric Sutton played college football before turning professional. College football is a big step for many young athletes.
Playing for SMU Mustangs
From 2016 to 2019, Eric played for the SMU Mustangs. He played in 37 games during this time. He even started in five of those games. Eric made 45 tackles and played a lot on special teams, which are important parts of the game. In 2019, he got injured. This allowed him to take a redshirt season, which means he could take a year off from playing but still keep his college eligibility for another year.
Time with Texas State Bobcats
In 2020, Eric decided to transfer to Texas State University. He wanted to play more as a nickelback, a specific defensive position. However, he did not play in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, which was his last year to play college football, he played in ten games for the Bobcats. He made 22 tackles that season.
Professional Football Career
After college, Eric Sutton began his professional football career in the CFL.
Joining the Toronto Argonauts
In the 2022 CFL Draft, Eric was chosen by the Toronto Argonauts. He was the 53rd player picked overall, in the sixth round. He officially signed with the team on May 10, 2022. After training camp, he was placed on the team's practice roster. This means he trained with the team but wasn't always in the main lineup for games.
Eric made his first professional appearance on June 25, 2022. This was in the team's second game against the BC Lions. In that game, he made one tackle on special teams. On July 24, 2022, he recorded his first two defensive tackles against the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Later, on September 24, 2022, he had his best game yet, making five tackles against the Ottawa Redblacks.
A big highlight of Eric's career was winning the Grey Cup in 2022 with the Toronto Argonauts. The Grey Cup is the championship trophy of the Canadian Football League.
The 2023 Season
In 2023, Eric Sutton played in four games. He made two defensive tackles during this season. He finished the season on the practice roster. His contract with the team ended on November 13, 2023, after the Argonauts lost their East Final game.
