Erick Wainaina facts for kids
Erick Wainaina (born December 19, 1973) is a famous Kenyan marathon runner. He was born in Nyahururu, Kenya. Erick is known for winning two Olympic medals: a bronze medal in 1996 and a silver medal in 2000. He also did very well in the 2004 Olympics, finishing seventh. This made him one of the few runners ever to finish in the top 10 at three different Olympic marathons!
Erick's Running Journey
Erick Wainaina started his international running career early. He ran in the World Championships in 1995, where he finished 18th. Later, he missed the 1999 World Championships because of an injury.
Erick often competed in races held in Japan. He won the Tokyo International Marathon twice, first in 1995 and again in 2002. He also won the Hokkaido Marathon three times! In 2003, he won the Nagano Marathon. He continued to run in the Nagano Marathon, finishing 13th in 2008 and 10th in 2010.
