Erigeron argentatus, also called silver fleabane, is a type of flowering plant. It belongs to the daisy family, just like sunflowers and dandelions! This plant grows naturally in the western United States. You can find it in states like Utah, Nevada, California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado.
About Silver Fleabane
Silver fleabane is a small plant that lives for many years. It is known as a perennial plant. It likes to grow in forests and on rocky mountainsides. This plant usually grows in clumps.
What Does It Look Like?
The silver fleabane plant can grow to be about 10 to 40 centimeters (4 to 16 inches) tall. Its stems and leaves are covered in soft, white, or silvery hairs. This is how it got its name, "silver" fleabane!
Most of the leaves grow close to the ground, near the bottom of the plant. These leaves stand up a bit and are a few centimeters long. Each stem has one flower head at the top.
The Flowers
The flower heads are about 1 to 2 centimeters (0.4 to 0.8 inches) wide. They have two main parts:
- Ray florets: These are the petal-like parts around the edge. They are usually blue or lavender in color.
- Disc florets: These are the tiny, golden yellow flowers in the center of the flower head.
Together, these small flowers make up one beautiful flower head, which looks a lot like a small daisy.
