About the Pygmy Daisy

This plant is a type of fleabane. Fleabanes are a group of plants that look a lot like daisies. They are known for their many colorful petals.

Where It Grows

The pygmy daisy naturally grows in parts of California and Nevada. You can find it in the eastern areas of California. It also lives in the western parts of Nevada.

It especially likes the Sierra Nevada mountains. You can also spot it in the White Mountains. This plant grows in other nearby mountain ranges too. It prefers high places in mountain forests. It also likes flat areas and rocky slopes called talus.

What It Looks Like

The pygmy daisy is a very small plant. It usually grows to be less than 6 centimeters (about 2.4 inches) tall. That's shorter than a credit card!

It grows in small groups. Its leaves are hairy and feel a bit sticky. These leaves are usually less than 4 centimeters (about 1.6 inches) long.

Each plant has a single small flower head. This flower head has dark, leaf-like parts around its base. Inside, you'll see many tiny flowers. There are usually 20 to 37 blue or purple petals. Sometimes, these petals can be white. In the center, there are many bright golden yellow tiny flowers.
