Erik James Coleman (born May 6, 1982) is a former American football player. He played as a safety in the National Football League (NFL). Erik was chosen by the New York Jets in the 2004 NFL Draft. He also played for the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions during his career. Before joining the NFL, he played college football at Washington State University.

Playing for the New York Jets
The New York Jets picked Erik Coleman in the fifth round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He quickly became an important player for the Jets' defense. He even made interceptions in his first two NFL games. Erik was known for playing very well, especially for a player with a lower salary. In 2005, he made a career-high 14 tackles in one game against the Buffalo Bills. Before the 2006 season, he had an appendectomy, which is a surgery to remove the appendix. This surgery affected his performance that year. During his time with the Jets, he started in 45 out of 48 regular season games.
Time with the Atlanta Falcons
On March 1, 2008, Erik Coleman joined the Atlanta Falcons. In the 2008 season, he had a great year. He made 95 total tackles, blocked 6 passes, and caught three interceptions. Those three interceptions were the most on the Falcons team that year. He was released from the Falcons on February 9, 2011.
Joining the Detroit Lions
After leaving the Falcons, Erik Coleman signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Lions on February 18, 2011. He played for the Lions until he was released on December 4, 2012.

After retiring from playing football in 2013, Erik Coleman started a new career in sports media. He joined the SNY team. Erik uses his experience as a former player to talk about sports on TV.
