Erik James Coleman, born on May 6, 1982, is a former American football player. He was a safety in the National Football League (NFL). Erik was chosen by the New York Jets in the 2004 NFL draft. He also played for the Atlanta Falcons and Detroit Lions. Before going pro, he played college football at Washington State University.

Playing for the New York Jets
The New York Jets picked Erik Coleman in the fifth round of the 2004 NFL draft. This was the 143rd pick overall. He quickly became an important player for the Jets. He even made interceptions in his first two NFL games.
In 2005, during a game against the Buffalo Bills, he made a career-high 14 tackles. Erik played in 48 regular season games for the Jets. He started in 45 of those games.
Playing for the Atlanta Falcons
On March 1, 2008, Erik Coleman joined the Atlanta Falcons. In his first season with the Falcons (2008), he had 95 total tackles. He also deflected 6 passes and made three interceptions. His three interceptions were the most on the Falcons team that year.
