Erin Manning (born 1969) is a Canadian thinker and artist. She studies how culture works and explores ideas about politics. She also creates art through dance, fabric design, and interactive art projects.

Erin Manning's work connects art, political theory (ideas about how governments and societies should work), and philosophy (the study of basic ideas about knowledge, values, and existence). She earned her Ph.D (a very high university degree) in Political Philosophy in 2000. Today, she teaches at Concordia University in their Fine Arts department.

Erin Manning's Creative Work and Research

Erin Manning started and leads the SenseLab. This is a special research group where people create new things and explore ideas. It is connected to Hexagram, an institute in Montreal that focuses on art and technology.

She often works with Brian Massumi, another important thinker. Together, they help publish a series of books called Technologies of Lived Abstraction through MIT Press. They also helped start a journal (a type of magazine for academic articles) called Inflexions: A Journal of Research Creation. This journal shares new ideas from creative research.

Teaching and Sharing Ideas

Erin Manning travels to many universities and places to share her knowledge. She gives workshops (hands-on learning sessions) and lectures (talks). Some of the places she has visited include the Zurich University of the Arts in Switzerland, the European Graduate School, and the University of California at Berkeley. She helps students and other researchers think about art, politics, and philosophy in new ways.
