Ernest Riles (born October 2, 1960) is a former American professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1985 to 1993. Ernest was a versatile player, often playing as a shortstop or third baseman. He played for teams like the Milwaukee Brewers, San Francisco Giants, and Boston Red Sox. Ernest batted left-handed and threw right-handed.

Early Life and High School Baseball
Ernest Riles grew up in Georgia, a state in the U.S. He was the youngest of eleven children, with ten brothers and one sister! Baseball was a big part of his life from a young age. He looked up to famous baseball player Bert Campaneris.
Ernest went to Bainbridge High School in Bainbridge, Georgia. There, he played baseball and was coached by John Palermo.
Starting in Professional Baseball
The Milwaukee Brewers picked Ernest Riles in the 1981 Major League Baseball Draft. This was his first step into professional baseball.
In 1983, while playing in a minor league called the Texas League, Ernest showed off his skills. He had the best batting average in the league, hitting .349. He also led in on-base percentage and OPS. Because of his great performance, he moved up to a higher minor league team the next year.
Making it to the Major Leagues
Ernest Riles joined the Milwaukee Brewers in the middle of the 1985 season. This was his first time playing in Major League Baseball. He quickly made an impact, hitting for a .286 average.
He finished third in the vote for the MLB Rookie of the Year Award in the American League. This was a big achievement for a new player!
Playing for Different Teams
After some time with the Brewers, Ernest was traded to the San Francisco Giants in 1988. The Giants needed more players for their infield. While playing for the Giants, Ernest hit the 10,000th home run in the team's history!
He also played in the 1989 World Series with the Giants. He even started the first two games of the series as the Designated Hitter.
Later in his career, Ernest played for the Oakland Athletics in 1991 and the Houston Astros in 1992. He finished his major league career with the Boston Red Sox in the 1993 season.
