Nur Ernie Shahirah binti Zakri (born 23 June 1992) is a Malaysian singer, actress, and vocal teacher. She became famous after winning a national singing contest called Bintang RTM in 2009. She won the Best Vocals award at the Anugerah Juara Lagu (AJL 32) in 2018 with her singing partner, Syamel Fodzly. Besides singing, she also taught music for two years.

Early Life and Education

Ernie Zakri was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Her mother is Rafiaah Mohamed, and her father is Zakri Ahmad, who is a drummer. Through her mother, she is the niece of famous singers Ziana Zain and Anuar Zain.

She went to SMK (P) Methodist in Kuala Lumpur. Later, she earned her degree in Music from Universiti Teknologi MARA Shah Alam. She also has a Master's degree in Music from University of Malaya.

Starting Her Journey

When Ernie was 17, she joined Bintang RTM 2009. She became the youngest winner of this national competition. In the final show, she sang two songs: "Cahaya" and "Kau Yang Teristimewa".

In 2011, she released her first album, Sinaran, with FMC Music. She released two songs from this album, "Mahu Ingin Bercinta" and "Rindu Bukan Teman". However, these songs did not get much attention at first.

Finding Success with Duets

In 2017, Ernie and her duet partner Syamel Fodzly joined a TV singing competition called Duo Star. They won the competition by singing songs like "Balqis" by Dato' Sri Siti Nurhaliza and "Kau Lupa Pada Janji" by Dato' Jamal Abdillah.

After winning, Ernie and Syamel released their first duet song, "Aku Cinta". This song helped them become very popular. In 2018, "Aku Cinta" reached the finals of Anugerah Juara Lagu. The duo also won the Best Vocals award for their performance. Later in 2018, Ernie released her solo song, "Ku Bersuara".

Continued Achievements

Following their success, Ernie and Syamel released another duet song, "Takkan Terlerai", in April 2019. Ernie also lent her voice to the animated movie Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal, playing the characters Bawang Merah and Bawang Putih.

She also started acting in the television series Suri Katriana, which was shown on Astro Prima. In November 2019, her song "Ku Bersuara" was chosen for the finals of the 34th Anugerah Juara Lagu. In 2020, her song "Gundah" also made it to the finals of Anugerah Juara Lagu 35.

On 14 March 2021, the Anugerah Juara Lagu 35 was held without an audience due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ernie won the Best Vocal award for AJL 35 again. This was her second time winning this award, after her first win at the 32nd edition. People sometimes call her the "Queen of Vocal Malaysia" or "Ariana Grande Malaysia".

Personal Life

Ernie married fellow singer Syameel Aqmal Mohd Fodzly on 22 March 2021. Their wedding took place at Puncak Alam Mosque in Selangor. They welcomed their daughter, Nur Khawla Soleha, on 22 February 2022.
