Eschscholzia parishii, also known as Parish's poppy, is a lovely desert wildflower. About Parish's Poppy

Parish's poppy is closely related to the California poppy (Eschscholzia californica). While the California poppy often grows in places with a Mediterranean climate (like sunny California with mild, wet winters and hot, dry summers), Parish's poppy is a true desert plant. This means it's super tough and can survive in very dry and hot environments.

Like other poppies, Parish's poppy likely has bright, cheerful flowers, often in shades of yellow or orange. These flowers help it attract pollinators like bees, which carry pollen from one flower to another, helping the plant make seeds.

Where Does Parish's Poppy Grow?

Parish's poppy is native to several desert areas in North America. You can find it growing in the Mojave Desert and the Colorado Desert. These deserts are located in southern California, especially around the Salton Sea.

The plant also grows further south into the Sonoran Desert. This desert stretches down along the Gulf of California all the way to a place called Bahía de los Ángeles in Baja California, Mexico. So, Parish's poppy is a true desert traveler, found across a wide range of dry, sunny landscapes!
