Escolca, also known as Iscroca in the sardinian language, is a small town in the Province of South Sardinia in Italy. It is located on the island of Sardinia, about 50 kilometers (31 miles) north of the city of Cagliari. As of December 2004, Escolca had a population of 652 people and covered an area of 14.7 square kilometers (5.7 square miles).
About Escolca
Escolca is found in a part of Sardinia called Sarcidano. This area is located between other regions known as Campidano, Marmilla, and Barbagia. The Sarcidano region is home to three man-made lakes: Mulargia, Flumendosa, and San Sebastiano.
This area is also very old and has many interesting archaeological sites. These sites include not only Nuragic remains, which are ancient stone structures, but also other historical findings.
Escolca is part of the "Oil Community," which means it's known for producing olive oil. The town also has a small subdivision called San Simone.
Escolca shares its borders with several other towns. These include Barumini, Gergei, Gesico, Mandas, Serri, and Villanovafranca.
A Bit of History
In 1952, a local family named Cadoni opened the first movie theater in Escolca. It was called 'Cinema Vittoria' and was a popular place for people to watch films. The cinema operated for over 20 years, closing its doors in 1974.
