Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States after the Spanish–American War in 1898. This happened under the rules of the Treaty of Paris of 1898.
Espinosa's Population Over Time
In 1899, the United States government counted the people living in Puerto Rico. They found that 787 people lived in Espinosa barrio back then. The population has grown quite a bit since that first count!
