Euabalong is a small town located in western New South Wales, Australia. It sits right on the Lachlan River. Euabalong is about 531 kilometres (330 miles) west of Sydney, which is the capital city of New South Wales. It's also quite close to Lake Cargelligo, only 27 kilometres away.
The town has a railway station nearby at Euabalong West. This station is part of the main Broken Hill railway line, which helps connect the town to other places.
Euabalong's Story
Euabalong was first mapped out in 1873. Soon after, in October of that year, people started buying land lots in the town.
In 1877, a visitor described Euabalong as a "forsaken and deserted looking hole." But even then, they noted that "business is said to be pretty brisk there." This means that even though it might have looked quiet, people were still doing a lot of buying and selling! At that time, the town had a few important buildings like two pubs, a blacksmith's shop, and a store.
The Lachlan River, which flows through Euabalong, can sometimes flood. This happens when there's a lot of rain in other areas upstream, like Forbes and Condobolin.
