The Extremaduran language (called estremeñu by its speakers) is a special language spoken mainly in the northwestern part of Cáceres province in Spain. About 150,000 people use it in the region of Extremadura. It's quite similar to the Leonese language and Asturian, which are spoken in areas that used to be part of the old Kingdom of León.
Sometimes, the Extremaduran language is also called artu estremeñu, meaning "High Extremaduran." There are also "Central Extremaduran" (Meyu estremeñu) and "Low Extremaduran" (Bahu estremeñu). These are actually Spanish dialects that have been influenced by the Extremaduran language.
