F. Duerr & Sons Ltd. is a well-known British company. They make tasty jam, marmalade, and peanut butter. Their main base is in Wythenshawe, Manchester, England. It's a family business that has been around for a long time!

The Story of Duerr's

Duerr's started way back in 1881. A man named Frederick Duerr began the company. He first made his delicious products from his home in Heywood, Lancashire.

Growing the Business

The company grew quickly. In 1884, they moved to a bigger place in Guide Bridge, Audenshaw. Just nine years later, in 1893, they moved again. This time, it was to a brand new factory built just for them in Old Trafford.

Duerr's During Wartime

During World War I, Duerr's did more than just make jam. They also helped the war effort in a special way. The company designed and made a "Lifeguard" periscope. This was a special tool that could collapse. British soldiers used it in the trenches to see safely.

Becoming a Limited Company

In 1924, Duerr's became a "limited company." This means it changed how it was owned and managed. It helped the company grow even more.

Modern Times and New Buildings

The company kept expanding over the years. In 1995, Duerr's opened a new, large building. This complex in Floats Road, Wythenshawe, has both a warehouse and a factory.

Duerr's Today

Today, Duerr's is still a family-run business. The fifth generation of the Duerr family is now in charge. They sell products under the Duerr's name. They also make products for other food stores. These are called "own brand" labels.

Amazing Achievements

Duerr's has done some pretty cool things. In 2006, they made the world's most expensive marmalade. It cost an amazing £5,000! This special marmalade included very old whisky, fancy champagne, and even edible gold.

They were also the first company to use "Orbit technology" in 2011. This technology made it possible to have easy-open lids on their jars. This made it much simpler for everyone to enjoy their products!
