About Duerr's
Duerr's is known for making many different kinds of fruit preserves. They sell their products under their own Duerr's brand. They also make products for other food stores to sell under those stores' own labels.
How Duerr's Started
The company was started in 1881 by a man named Frederick Duerr. He began making his products from his home in Heywood, Lancashire.
Moving and Growing
As the company grew, it needed more space.
- In 1884, Duerr's moved to a new place in Audenshaw.
- Then, in 1893, they moved again to a special factory built just for them in Old Trafford.
- In 1924, the company officially became a "limited company," which is a type of business structure.
- Much later, in 1995, Duerr's opened a big new warehouse and factory in Wythenshawe.
Duerr's During World War I
During World War I, Duerr's did more than just make jam. They also helped with the war effort. They designed and made a special "Lifeguard" periscope. This periscope could be folded up and was used by British soldiers in the trenches to see safely.
Cool Facts About Duerr's
Duerr's has done some interesting things over the years.
- In 2006, they created the world's most expensive marmalade! It cost £5,000. This special marmalade included very old whisky, fancy champagne, and even edible gold.
- In 2011, Duerr's was the first company to use "Orbit technology" for their jar lids. This made the lids much easier to open for everyone.
Duerr's is still run by the Duerr family today, with the fifth generation now in charge.
