A year after Sudjasmin graduated, a big event called the 30 September Movement happened in Indonesia. He was sent to help stop the Indonesian Communist Party. From 1965 to 1987, he moved up in rank many times. He went from a first lieutenant all the way to a colonel.

Important Roles and Commands

During his career, Sudjasmin held many different leadership roles. He was a Platoon Commander and a Company Commander in the 123rd Infantry Battalion. He also served as the Deputy Commander of the 121st Infantry Battalion. He taught at the Regional Training Regiment for the Siliwangi Military Command. Later, he became the Commander of the 320th Infantry Battalion.

He also worked as the Chief of Staff for the Wira Dharma Military Resort. This area used to include the province of East Timor. He was also an assistant for military affairs to the Chief of Staff of the Udayana Military Command. For a time, he was even the personal secretary to the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Army.

Becoming a General

On January 12, 1987, Sudjasmin became the Commander of the Salatiga Military Resort. While in this role, he was promoted to brigadier general in July 1988. Later, on August 7, 1992, Sudjasmin was promoted to commander of the Sriwijaya Military Region. At that time, the military had a special role called dual function. This meant military officers could also be involved in politics. Because of this, Sudjasmin also became a member of the Golkar party, which was the main political party then.

Top Army Positions

Sudjasmin left his commander role on August 3, 1993. Seventeen days later, he moved to Jakarta. He became the Inspector General of the Indonesian Army. He held this important job for about two years.
