Fabian Birkowski was an important Polish writer and preacher who lived a long time ago. He was born in Lwów in 1566 and passed away in Kraków, Poland, on December 9, 1636.

Early Life and Education
Fabian Birkowski began his studies at the Kraków Academy in 1585. This was a famous university, and he learned a lot there. By 1587, he was already teaching others! He lectured on Latin and Greek literature, and he also taught philosophy.
Becoming a Preacher
In 1596, Fabian Birkowski joined the Dominican order. This is a group of religious people who dedicate their lives to God and often teach or preach. He quickly became known as an amazing speaker, or "orator." People loved to listen to his speeches.
He gave many important speeches, especially at the funerals of famous people. These included:
- King Sigismund III Vasa
- The King's wife, Konstancja
- Important leaders like Krzysztof Zbaraski and Piotr Skarga
- Military commanders called Hetmans, such as Jan Karol Chodkiewicz and Jan Zamoyski
Serving the King and Country
From 1611 to 1634, Fabian Birkowski served as a preacher for King Wladyslaw IV of Poland at the royal court. This was a very important job!
In 1622, he also became a "Camp preacher" (kaznodzieja obozowy). This meant he traveled with the army during wars. He would give sermons and support the soldiers fighting against countries like Turkey, Muscovy, and Walachia.
His Written Works
Fabian Birkowski wrote down many of his sermons and speeches. These books helped share his ideas and teachings with even more people. Some of his most famous works include:
- Kazania na Niedziele i Swieta (1620) – This was a collection of sermons for Sundays and holidays.
- Kazania obozowe o Bogarodzicy... (1623) – These were his "camp sermons," likely given to soldiers.
- Mowy pogrzebowe i przygodne t. 1–3 (1901) – This is a collection of his funeral and occasional speeches.
