Fackler, also known as Flackler, Facler, or Fackler's Station, is a small place in Jackson County, Alabama, United States. It's called an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of the larger county and gets its services from there.

A Glimpse into Fackler's Past

Early Days and the Railroad

Fackler has been around for a long time. Its post office, where people send and receive mail, was set up way back in 1869. This community grew up along an important railway line called the Memphis and Charleston Railroad. Railroads were super important in the 1800s for moving people and goods across the country. Fackler became a stop, or "station," on this busy line.

Fackler During the Civil War

During the American Civil War (1861-1865), Fackler played a small but interesting role. It was a base for soldiers during the Chattanooga Campaign. This was a series of important battles fought in the fall of 1863 around Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Union Army's 90th Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment was stationed in Fackler. Soldiers would have used the railroad to move supplies and troops.

The Story of Phillip Hamman

A famous person named Phillip Hamman was once buried near Fackler. He was known as "The Savior of Greenbrier" because of a brave act he did during the American Revolutionary War. In 1778, he risked his life to warn settlers at Fort Donnally in what is now West Virginia about an upcoming attack by Native American warriors. His warning helped the settlers prepare and defend themselves, saving many lives. Hamman was buried on his plantation land, called Hammon Hollow, in the Inglis-Middleton Cemetery near Fackler. His name is sometimes spelled "Hammon."
