Fadhil Jamil Barwari (1966 – 20 September 2018) was a brave Iraqi General. He was the commander of the Special Forces of Iraq. General Barwari was well-known for his important role in taking back cities from the Islamic State group. This happened during the War in Iraq from 2013 to 2017.

A Military Hero: Fadhil Barwari
Early Life and Training
Fadhil Barwari was born in Duhok, Iraq, in 1966. He came from a Kurdish family in Zahko. Before joining the Iraqi Army, he studied at the Second Military College in Zahko. He also joined the Peshmerga, which were Kurdish fighters. They stood against the government at that time.
Joining the Iraqi Special Forces
After the U.S. invasion in 2003, Barwari joined the Iraqi Army in 2004. He quickly moved up in the military ranks. He became the leader of the Iraqi Special Operations Forces (ISOF). This was a very skilled group of special forces. The U.S. Army's Special Forces trained them. They also used American weapons. In this role, he led Iraqi special forces in the Anbar campaign in 2014.
Fighting ISIS
General Barwari was a key figure in the fight against the Islamic State (ISIS). He led many important operations. His forces helped to free cities that ISIS had taken over. He was known for his courage and leadership in these battles. His work was very important in protecting Iraq.
His Legacy
General Barwari passed away on 20 September 2018. He died from a heart attack. He is remembered as a hero in Iraq. He played a vital role in keeping his country safe. He had 13 children.
