Fair Oaks is a small community in Douglas County, Oregon. It is called an "unincorporated community" because it does not have its own local government like a city. It is also a "census-designated place," which means the U.S. Census Bureau counts its population separately.
Fair Oaks is located in the southern part of Driver Valley. It sits along Calapooya Creek. You can find it by road between the towns of Sutherlin and Nonpareil. The community is also upstream from Oakland along the creek.
The name "Fair Oaks" comes from the many oak trees growing nearby. Long ago, from 1878 to 1882, Fair Oaks had its own post office. After that, mail for Fair Oaks was sent through the post office in Oakland.
